Following the split from SNCB, Infrabel inherited the management of train stops. These are the 307 stations which have neither premises nor staff. Often dilapidated, these stops are marked by signs that are not always clear or visible, and practical information for travelers is often deficient. The signage therefore had to be fundamentally revised, so as to make these stops more visible, while improving the information provided to travelers.
The totems inform the traveler. They are located at the entrances to train stops and on platforms. They have the advantage of centralizing all the useful information: name of the stop, platform number, direction, line map, neighborhood map, timetables, etc.
Two types of totems have been developed: the first is located at the entrances to train stops and the second is located on the platforms. The information has been designed to meet the expectations of travelers: name of the stop, indication of the platforms , timetables, maps of the district and the line, indications of transport modes located nearby (taxi, trams, buses, etc.), backlit display area and emergency call terminal.
Prototypes were made in order to validate their sizes, but also to avoid embarking on too expensive production.
The materials and finishes (stainless steel, enameled sheet metal, protective paints and varnishes, safety glass, etc.) have been chosen to last and resist both bad weather and acts of vandalism.

The signage elements were installed in 3 pilot train stops: one French-speaking (Havré), one Dutch-speaking (Beersel) and one bilingual (Bordet). They served as models during the trial period.
The guideline developed by Concerto precisely determines the elements present on the totems such as pictograms, headdress, street and platform indications, etc.
It will allow the various subcontractors designated for the development of all the stops to produce the various signage elements in an efficient and profitable manner.
